In Ayurveda, both the environment and humans are composed of five basic elements: Air, Space, Fire, Water, and Earth. The predominance of these elements affects the three metabolic characteristics of individuals, known as Doshas. These three Doshas are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, and individuals can be classified as one of these three constitutions or as a combination of two or even all three Doshas.

Ayurveda recognizes that our physical and mental well-being are intricately connected to the balance of the three Doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. When these Doshas are in harmony, we experience good health, vitality, and peace. However, imbalances can lead to physical ailments and emotional disturbances. The body’s signs and symptoms are the body’s way of signaling an imbalance. Ayurveda sees these as disruptions in the tridoshas—vata, pitta, and kapha. By working towards doshic balance, we can prevent diseases or activate the body’s natural healing processes to address the root cause of ailments, thus restoring health at a fundamental level.
